Del Mar Racing Season

Where: Del Mar Racetrack
Opening Day is behind us but the excitement of race season in San Diego continues throughout the summer. Head down to the Del Mar Fairgrounds every Wednesday-Sunday for the most exhilarating of the August events. In addition to the normal race schedule, the Pacific Classic returns to the track on Saturday the 19th. Del Mar’s richest and most prestigious race will feature many of the country’s top horses in the 27th running of this signature event.
Solana Beach Family Campout
When: Saturday, August 5 – Sunday, August 6 | 5:00 PM – 9:00 AM
Where: La Colonia Park
Want the family fun of a camp out without having to trek all the way to the mountains? The Solana Beach Family Campout has got you covered. Grab the kids and head over to La Colonia Park for a night they’ll never forget. The event starts at 5:00 PM with family game time and the fun continues through the night. A spaghetti dinner, pancake breakfast, and (of course) plenty of S’mores will be provided.
Cardiff Dog Days of Summer
When: Sunday, August 13 | 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Where: Encinitas Community Park
Calling all dog lovers! Grab your furry friends and head over to Cardiff for an August event that never disappoints. The free gathering features 200+ vendors and rescue groups, pet adoptions, live music, kids activities, delicious food trucks, refreshing beer and more. If your dog is ready for the spotlight, enter them in one of six contest categories. This year’s categories are Cutest Puppy, Best Looking Big Dog, Best Looking Small Dog, Best Trick, Best Dressed and Dog/Owner Look-A-Like.
Carlsbad Music Festival
When: Friday, August 25 – Sunday, August 27
Where: Carlsbad Village
The 14th annual Carlsbad Music Festival returns to the “Village by the Sea” this August and you won’t want to miss it. The festival has been called one of the area’s most innovative music showcases, and that sentiment is echoed by the diverse lineup of musicians set to perform at this year’s event. A unique mix of ticketed main-stage acts and talented free-stage artists ensures that there is something for everyone. Headliners include impressive singer-songwriter Julia Holter and Xiu Xiu playing the music of Twin Peaks. Soak up the San Diego sunshine, breathe in the crisp ocean air and immerse yourself in community culture at the 13th annual LeucadiART Walk. The event will feature dozens of local artists, numerous dance demonstrations, six stages with live music, a children’s art pavilion, a Craft Beer Garden and so much more. The impressive function takes place on the always beautiful Highway 101, while free trolleys will be running throughout the day.
